Lee Roy Selmon's history combines family football scholarship with volunteerism in the community. The first is his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on an Eufala farm. He played football alongside three brothers for Oklahoma. Three of them made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was an All-Star for the whole 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi award as the nation's best lineman. Lee Roy won two championships, and the score was 32-1-1 over his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a diploma as a teacher. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week throughout his college years. After graduation, he moved in Tampa and played for nine years for the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro for three occasions. He then began his career. His first job was as a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. In the past, he worked on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was not a surprise when the year 1982 was when the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy among the top 10 young stars across the country. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds in the time he played football at college. In 1975, he led the group. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as the Associate Director of Sports. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 presented their Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
